A BRIEF LOOK AT CROATIAN PRESS ON WEDNESDAY

ZAGREB, July 6 (Hina) - VJESNIK today devotes the front page to the latest news from Geneva, where the Contact Group adopted a plan for the territorial and political arrnatement of Bosnia-Herzegovina. An article headlined "Croatia has its Place in the European Family" covers yesterday's meeting between President Tudjman and the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Miguel Angel Martinez and other Martinez' activities on the second day of his visit to Croatia. The paper also covers the visit of Macedonian Premier Branko Crvenkovski to Croatia. VJESNIK runs a feature about nationwide protests against UNPROFOR's inefficiency, staged by the Union of Refugees of Croatia. The refugees have been blocking the movement of UNPROFOR, UNHCR and Red Cross vehicles for six days now. Commenting on the last-minute postponement of the eviction of the Melkic family from a former Yugoslav army apartment, which was scheduled for yesterday, VJESNIK recalles that the "defence ministry had declared a moratorium on evictions until the status of the tenants had been resolved by legislation." "The Melkic case suggests that the moratorium has been unofficially lifted," says the paper, quoting rumours about 200 impending evictions. The paper brings an interview with Chairman of the Croatian Helsinki Committee Zvonimir Cicak, headlined "How to Deal with Extreme Fear and Hatred," as well as an interview with Turkish Ambassador to Croatia Yuksel Soylemez. "Tourists Take Adriatic by Storm," screams a front-page headline in today's issue of the VECERNJI LIST. The article triumphantly lists the statistics of bed-nights spent in Croatian sea-side resorts. VECERNJI LIST also covers Martinez' and Crvenkovski's diplomatic activities in Croatia. Speculating about the outcome of the July Parliament sitting devoted to UNPROFOR, VECERNJI LIST suggests that the most likely move on the part of the opposition is to call a parallel session on the same subject. Another possibility is for the opposition to attend the parliamentary sitting, but to ignore Speaker Mihanovic, whose election they consider as illegitimate, throughout the proceedings. The paper brings some highlights from the minutes of the founding session of the Council for Istria, announcing the Council's second session for tomorrow. The paper also carries an interview with the President of the Croatian World Congress, Friar Simun Coric. 061343 MET jul 94
