LONDON, May 23 (Hina) - The project for a multi-purpose music
centre in Mostar, sponsored by the "War Child" humanitarian
organization, was presented Monday evening in the London MTV (Music
Television) studio. The project gathered well-known rock-music
figures such as David Bowie and Brian Eno, the playwright Tom
Stoppard, and the MTV manager Brent Henson.
"The Mostar project is unusual in several ways. It will
probably be the first significant new building since the war
started, and so it will symbolize everyone's hope that life is
going on," said music producer and ambiental composer Brian Eno on
his return from Mostar, where he had toured the site of the
building, accompanied by architect Nick Lacey.
The school itself would be different from standard music
schools inasmuch as it would have a special musical therapy
department for war-traumatized children. The school would be
constructed upon the ruins od a former primary school in the
eastern part of Mostar.
The project, worth four million pounds, has already started.
Architect Lacey had made a model, which was presented in the MTV
London studio. The presentation also included a film about Mostar,
which would be partly broadcast on MTV, and an exhibition of war
photographs.
The occasion was attended by Croatian and Bosnian diplomats
and other officials.
