PRESIDENT TUDJMAN RECEIVES CROATIAN RED CROSS REPS - STATEMENT

ZAGREB, May 15 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman this morning met in the Presidential Palace the Croatian Red Cross (HCK) chairing persons, president Ruza Pospis Baldani and Nenad Javornik, the President's Office said in a statement. Delivering to the President, as to major sponsor of HCK, a 'Report on HCK's Activities in 1994', Javornik acquainted him with the latest facts on the assistance to war-stricken people. During last four years HCK has collected a total of 750 million German marks, mostly from the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, from International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent societies, and from national friendship societies. At the moment a total of 620,000 persons have been assisted by HCK. Croatian Red Cross has been paying a special attention to fate of 2,820 missing persons during the Homeland War, as well as to blood donations, first aid, and care for people in need. Javornik also stressed the HCK's need for a central warehouse to be opened as soon as possible in order to be ready to act quickly and efficiently in case of natural disaster. The need of coordination of all governmental and non- governmental organizations charged with the care of refugees, human rights, social welfare, and first aid was also discussed. After the talks President Tudjman congratulated to his guests on their successful work and expressed full support to the future activities of the Croatian Red Cross. The talks were attended by the Chief of the President's Cabinet, Gordan Radin, the President's advisor for social issues, Branimir Jaksic, and the Chief of the Department for Appointments and Decorations, Stjepan Adamic, the statement said.
