A BRIEF LOOK AT CROATIAN PRESS ON MONDAY

ZAGREB, May 8 (Hina) - Today's VJESNIK leads with an article on the celebration in London of the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II, under the headline "Reconciliation and Hope of Peace." Vjesnik gives its coverage of meetings President Tudjman had in London, emphasising the talks with US Under-Secretary Richard Holbrooke. "The Federation Between Means and Ends" is the headline of a commentary which says in part: "While the Croats are accelerating the establishment of a joint federation and its confederation with Croatia, the Moslems are stalling because they see the federation as a means to their 'real' end, without ruling out some other 'federations and confederations'." Vjesnik carries an article on the third congress of the Union of Croatian War Volunteers, under the headline "Rights of Croatian Volunteers". "Humanitarian Doesn't Necessarily Mean Lawful" is the headline of a probe into the work of some 500 humanitarian agencies in Croatia. The other Zagreb-based daily, VECERNJI LIST, carries a front- page article on the commemoration of the victory of the anti- fascist coalition under the headline "Spectacle in Honour of Victory". Vecernji List covers a press conference by Brigadier Ivan Tolj, head of the Croatian Defence Ministry policy department, on a flood of false allegations by Serb media regarding a recent Croatian action in western Slavonia. "Volunteers - Conscience of Croatia" is the headline of an article on the third congresss of the Union of Croatian War Volunteers. Vecernji List also includes a report on the process of organizing civilian authorities in the hitherto occupied area of western Slavonia. (hina) jn vm 081145 MET may 95
