ZAGREB, May 4 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament House of
Representatives closed today's session with debate on the Bill on
the Rights of Members of Parliament.
The session was scheduled to continue tomorrow 9.30 a.m.
The Bill proposed a reduction of salaries for lawmakers who
fail to attend Parliament sessions.
The session decided that the Bill should be returned to the
Committe for Administrative Issues, which had proposed it, for
reconsideration.
Most deputies described the Bill as anti-constitutional.
Ante Klaric of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) recalled
that failure to attend Parliament sessions was a way of political
struggle.
His party colleague and one of the Bill's sponsors, Vice
Vukojevic, said that the Bill was not directed against the
lawmakers but it stipulated that "one cannot take money one has not
earned."
