ZAGREB, May 3 (Hina) - Today's issue of the Zagreb-based daily,
Vjesnik, carries a comment piece on a statment by the Co-Chairman
of the International Conference on the former Yugoslavia, Lord
David Owen, in connection with the Croatian police and military
action on the Zagreb-Lipovac highway. The statement was carried by
Israeli radio and British Sky television.
The commentary, written by Maja Freundlich, was headlined
"David Owen Won't Be Able Take Away Croatia's Freedom."
"Serbs had a feeling of complacency and victory
complemented with a feeling that they should no longer fear and
fight because their conquests were backed by the entire
international community. Their booty was protected by the UN force.
Therefore, the armed forces of the united states of the world gave
their blessing for Serb Nazi madness, approved all killings and
bloodshed, protected the seizure of other people's land and
confirmed with their arms that evil was worth it. And now one of
the leaders of the United Nations, which lost face, thinks that
another step forward should be made to forbid the victim any
attempt to gain freedom.
One should not labour under the delusion that all Owens in
the world would not attempt to stop Croatia with urgent sessions,
urgent decisions and urgent threats. Anyway, we ourselves shall
stop when we achieve our immediate goals or when we estimate that
with our actions we have achieved what we wanted. But nobody, and
not even David Owen, will ever be able to take away Croatia's
freedom," Freundlich said.
