ZAGREB, May 4 (Hina) - The Croatian government held a session in a
shelter today as Zagreb was put on general alert. The sesssion was
chaired by Prime Minister Nikica Valentic.
The government thus wanted to show that all citizens should
strictly follow security measures, a government statement said.
The session heard a report on the progress of establishment of
civilian authorities in Western Slavonia.
Minister of Administration Davorin Mlakar said that previously
elected executive bodies and representatives for the municipalities
of Stara Gradiska, Jasenovac and Gornji Bogicevci, hitherto in
exile, were assuming their local posts.
The government appointed a commissioner for the Okucani
municipality.
Civilian life was to be restored in the liberated areas by not
later than Monday, the statement said.
Necessary measures were being taken to restore electricity,
running water and telecommunications and reopen roads, health
institutions, banks and shops.
Transport Minister Ivica Mudrinic said that the Zagreb -
Lipovac highway was in operation while local roads were being
repaired.
Croatian Railways was planning to open the main railway line
on Saturday.
