A BRIEF LOOK AT CROATIAN PRESS ON THURSDAY

ZAGREB, March 2 (Hina) - Today's VJESNIK devotes the front page to President Tudjman's meeting with EUCD (European Union Christian Democrats) Vice-President Wim van Velsen and the Government session. VJESNIK's military commentator, Fran Visnar, comments on a recent military treaty between Serbia and Russia. "Belgrade expects to buy from Russia new licences for the production of small, medium and heavy weaponry. That would enable the Serbian military industry to speed up production, offer new jobs and place part of its output on the international 'grey' and 'black' arms market," says the comment piece, headlined "Rockets Expected, Satellites Already Spying." An article marking Bosnia's Independence Day (March 1) reproaches the Sarajevo press for ignoring the contribution of Bosnian Croats and their leadership - the HDZ, which called on the Croat community to vote for Bosnian independence at the 1992 referendum. Today's VECERNJI LIST covers the Government session under the headline "Croatian Electric Utility to Save Four Companies." The Government decided to entrust the restructuring of four loss- making companies to the Croatian Electric Utility, on the grounds that they use a lot of electric power. The paper also covers President Tudjman's meeting with EUCD officials. A comment piece by Mirko Galic discusses the attitude of French parties to the war in Croatia and Bosnia during the election campaign. The paper also carries an interview with UN Sector South spokesman, Alun Roberts, headlined "UNPROFOR Is Not the Same as the UN in Cyprus." (hina) jn as 021129 MET mar 95
