SARAJEVO, March 1 (Hina) - UN peacekeepers were to implement
supporting measures in order to protect civilians in Sarajevo
from the recent increase in the number of sniper attacks.
UNPROFOR in Sarajevo said that special anti-sniper squads
would be on patrol near tram tracks and the trams themselves would
be accompanied by UN armoured vehicles in critical areas (between
'Holiday Inn' hotel and the Brotherhood and Unity Bridge).
UN French peacekeepers yesterday were targets of a sniper
attack while manning their observation posts near Mount Mojmil. One
UN soldier was shot but was not wounded because he was wearing a
protection shield.
The UN yesterday recorded five heavy detonations near the
Sarajevo Airport but it was not clear who was responsible.
Serbs violated a ceasefire agreement by launching two mortar
shells from their positions at Mount Cemerska, north of Sarajevo
which is in the exclusion-zone.
