ZAGREB, Jan 2 (Hina) - Shooting incidents on New Year's Eve and New
Year's Day, compared to the same period last year, were less
frequent and resulted in less intense consequences.
Christmas was even relatively quiet, Zagreb police told a
press a conference today.
During the Christmas and New Year holidays in Zagreb between
December 24 and January 1, firecracker explosions injured seven
people, gun shots wounded three and bullets fired nowhere in
particular, hit two people.
A Zagreb woman died in a traffic accident. Between December 30
and January 1, 146 traffic incidents were reported, in which 33
people were injured.
Bullets flew through 15 houses and apartments (compared to 51
in '93/'94 period). People responsible for five of the shootings
are likely to be fined because they fired at houses whose occupants
were still inside.
Ten cars were damaged this year compared to 19 in the '93-'94
period.
Croatian television carried a brief advertisement in the last
fortnight of December asking its citizens to take care during the
holiday period and reminding them of '93-'94 incidents.
