MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS TO BE HELD LATE NOVEMBER

SARAJEVO, Sept 21 (Hina) - Municipal elections in Bosnia- Herzegovina should take place between November 22 and 24 this year and will most probably last for two days, deputy president of the Provisional Electoral Commission with the OSCE Mission Sir Kenneth Scott said on Saturday. The Electoral Commission reached this decision at Saturday's session in Sarajevo based on previous consent of representatives of Bosnia-Herzegovina, the Bosnian Federation and Republika Srpska that the OSCE mandate be extended to the end of the year so the municipal elections could take place. Before the elections, all Bosnian citizens will be given a deadline of five days to verify whether their names are on the lists of voters. The process should end by November 16 and the measure had been proposed to avoid the reoccurrence of problems from the general elections when voters could not find their names on lists of voters, Scott said. The number of polling stations will be lessened. Scott stressed that this would enable OSCE to increase control over the election process. The Provisional Electoral Commission in next week to issue exact instructions about the ways of registration of voters and about the fate of the P-2 ballot which made it possible for people to vote in any municipality notwithstanding their place of residence in 1991.
