ZAGREB, 30 Aug (Hina) - The deadline for the transfer of authority
from the bodies of authority of Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Croat
Republic of Herzeg-Bosnia to the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina
would be met and the remaining open questions regarding the
transfer process would be discussed at a meeting in Sarajevo on
Friday, Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic and the U.S.
Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Canada, John Kornblum
said after yesterday's meeting in Zagreb. #L#
Granic and Kornblum discussed the importance of the 23 August
agreement on the normalisation of relations between Croatia and
Yugoslavia, as well as today's meeting of the Federation Forum in
Sarajevo and the forthcoming elections.
'The Forum will discuss the remaining problems concerning the
transfer of authority from Bosnia-Herzegovina and Herzeg-Bosnia to
the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina', Granic said.
Kornblum said that the 31 August deadline for the transfer of
authority would be met.
The agreement on the normalisation of relations between
Croatia and Yugoslavia represented a strong incentive in the
implementation of the Dayton peace agreement and the reintegration
of the Croatian Danubian area was probably its most important part,
Croatian Foreign Minster Granic said.
At its next session, the Croatian parliament would ratify the
agreement as well as a general amnesty act, which does not include
war criminals.
Speaking about the postponement of Bosnian elections, Granic
said that deferring the elections would have a very negative impact
on the overall process in Bosnia.
The Bosnian elections should be held on time, he added,
expressing Croatia's support for the elections.
The decision on the postponement of municipal elections showed
that the election process was being closely watched and that any
manipulation would be reacted to, Kornblum said, adding that the
postponement of municipal elections guaranteed that the elections
would be more successful and credible.
There were many sensitive issues in Bosnia's peace process and
their solution should be encouraged, Kornblum said, adding that
progress in the relations between Croatia and Yugoslavia in the
reintegration of the Croatian Danubian area and the establishment
of the Croat-Muslim Federation would represent encouragement in
that process.
On his behalf and on behalf of the U.S. government, Kornblum
thanked Granic for his important role in all aspects of Bosnia
peace process.
