OSIJEK, Aug 31 (Hina) - Representatives of the Association for
Peace and Human Rights from Baranja (temporarily under U.N.
administration) on Saturday visited the Centre for Peace and Non-
Violence in Osijek, accompanied by UNTAES.
President of the Baranja Association Gordana Stojanovic told
Hina that the two associations had been working on joint projects
for several years, but this was their first meeting in Osijek.
"We met in Mohac (Hungary) before, but now, when the
reintegration process is in course, there's no reason for us not to
meet in Osijek or some other place under the Transitional
Administration", Stojanovic said.
She added that media on both sides still created a climate of
mistrust, but that direct contacts and meetings were very
important.
Asked if the population under the Transitional Administration
was aware that the establishment of Croatian authority in that area
was underway, Stojanovic said that "since 1991 there were people in
the area who were aware that this was Croatia".
She concluded by saying that after the signing of the
Agreement on the Normalization of Relations Between Croatia and
Yugoslavia many things started progressing positively.
