BELI MANASTIR, Aug 13 (Hina) - A Serbian flag hoisted on the Beli
Manastir substation building welcomed Croatian reporters coming to
attend the opening of the radio link between the Beli Manastir and
Osijek substations on Tuesday.
However, the flag conveniently disappeared before the end of
the opening ceremony. Under the Basic Agreement on peaceful
reintegration, Serb state symbols were to have been removed from
the Croatian Danubian area several months ago.
A Serbian reporter asked UNTAES officials to confiscate a
Croatian TV reporter's camera but was refused.
Otherwise, the opening passed without incidents. Croatian
reporters had the opportunity to interview several Serbian
inhabitants who were forthcoming enough.
Most of them stressed the need for mutual tolerance.
