'The main topic at the talks was how to reintegrate the area
into Croatia's economic system', Stern said, stressing that the two
sides had discussed the banking system, the provision of loans and
assets and a gradual introduction of the Croatian currency kuna.
Stern added he was pleasantly surprised at the talks and the
openness of some of the participants.
Some 65% of production halls at 'Vuteks' was destroyed and out
of 1260 workers, who used to work in the company before the
aggression, 480 were employed. The damage rate in 'Borovo' was
higher than in 'Vuteks', Stern said, adding he hoped that concrete
programs aimed at the rehabilitation of production in the 'Borovo'
would soon be realized.
'We met to consider the economic future of the region', the
Transitional Administrator in the area, Jacques Paul Klein said,
stressing the importance of employment and industrial revival in
the area.
