FLORENCE, June 14 (Hina) - "A very high-quality discussion" on
conditions in eastern Slavonia, Baranja and western Srijem and on
the reintegration of that region within the constitutional frame of
Croatia had been held at the Ministerial Conference on the
Implementation of the Dayton Agreement in Florence, Italy, on
Friday, said Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic.
The session on the regional dimension of the peace process saw
speeches by transitional administrator for the Croatian Danubian
area, General Jacques Klein, Granic, Belgian Foreign Minister Erik
Derycke and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov.
Granic said that Klein had been given full support in his
efforts for a peaceful reintegration of the Croatian Danubian area.
He added that he had appealed for supplementary financial aid
for the reconstruction not only of that area but the whole Croatia,
particularly the most destroyed liberated areas, and aid had been
promised by EU Commissioner for Relations Between Southeastern
European Countries, Hans van den Broek.
Granic concluded by saying that the conference, attended by 45
countries and 15 international organizations, provided an
opportunity to invite all participants to support the admission of
Croatia into the Council of Europe.
