ZAGREB, May 15 (Hina) - The Zagreb daily VJESNIK runs a commentary
on the Zagreb City Council session after the Constitutional Court's
decision to overrule the government decision on the dissolution of
the Council. The commentary is headlined "City Council Together
Again".
The paper also runs a commentary headlined "Decision on
Council of Europe in June", from Brussels where 15 foreign
ministers did not give a green light to Croatia for its admission
into the Council of Europe.
Access to the Council of Europe is Croatia's priority, Nenad
Ivankovic writes in VJESNIK, adding that some European standards in
internal politics had to be adopted.
"The standards do not always have to correspond with what we
think is needed or useful at the moment," Ivankovic said.
In an article headlined "Kinkel in Belgrade With New Offers",
Ivo Lovric writes that the upcoming visit of the German Foreign
Minister to Belgrade was meant to boost German influence in the
region, but politicians in Bonn assess that the possibility of
influencing Milosevic (Serbian president) was small.
The paper also runs an interview with the secretary of the
Serb Demographic Forum, Veljko Dzakula, under the headline "Serbs
Have Never Been Against Croatia!". Dzakula expressed his belief
that some 80% of Serbs would return to Croatia.
Another Zagreb daily, VECERNJI LIST, runs a commentary on the
session of the Zagreb City Council under the headline "The Council
Awaits Government's Answer.
Tomislav Drzic writes about the decision of 15 foreign
ministers on the postponement of Croatia's accession into the
Council of Europe. He writes that European politics had not changed
towards Croatia since 1991.
"This is just another scheme of some European leaders, mainly
France and Great Britain, who are uncomfortable with American
influence in Croatia.
