ZAGREB, April 23 (Hina) - The Hague International Criminal Tribunal
For Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) is to have a discussion behind closed
doors on Wednesday concerning a request made by General Tihomir
Blaskic's defense that they be provided with all material on which
their client's indictment is based. #L#
The defense has not received any of the requested material and
plans to propose that the indictment be revoked.
Blaskic's defence attorneys, Zvinimir Hodak and Nela Pedisic
from Zagreb, demanded at an April 3 hearing, when their client
first appeared before ICTY, that prosecutors deliver all material
on which the indictment was based, so that they could prepare a
proper defense.
On that occasion, the ICTY chairman, Judge Claude Jorda,
arranged an April 24 discussion to see to what extent the defense
requests had been met.
General Blaskic surrendered to ICTY on April 1, of his own
accord. He was charged with crimes against humanity, severe
breaches of the Geneva conventions and breaches of laws and customs
of war.
Last Wednesday, The Hague Tribunal President, Antonio Cassese,
gave his approval for a considerable improvement of Blaskic's
detention conditions.
