ZAGREB, March 25 (Hina) - General Tihomir Blaskic will not appear
before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former
Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague this week as previously announced,
the office of his defence attorney said Monday.
Defence attorney Zvonimir Hodak announced in an interview
with the Sunday edition of the Zagreb-based daily "Vjesnik" that
Blaskic was willing to make himself available to the tribunal and
travel to the Hague to attend the first hearing scheduled for
March 29.
However, Hodak's office received a letter from the tribunal
on Monday showing that that all conditions for Blaskic's
appearance in the court, which had been agreed upon with Chief
Proescutor Richard Goldstone, were not fulfilled.
"Arrangements have not been observed and what has been
agreed with Goldstone is now completely changed so that departure
for The Hague is postponed until further notice," Hodak's
assistant, Nela Pedisic, told Hina by telephone on Monday.
It was evident from the letter, signed by Goldstone's
deputy, that there was no possibility of bail, Pedisic said,
adding that it was "completely unacceptable."
On 13 November 1995, the Hague-based tribunal indicted
General Blaskic and five more Bosnian Croats for crimes against
Moslem civilians in central Bosnia.
