THE HAGUE, 2 April (Hina) - The President of the International
Criminal Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) Antonio Cassese
would publicize on Wednesday his decision on whether General
Tihomir Blaskic is to remain in prison or be allowed to defend
himself from house arrest under strong surveillance, ICTY spokesman
Christian Shartier said. #L#
On Tuesday, Cassese considered behind closed doors a request
by Blaskic's defender, Zagreb lawyer Zvonimir Hodak, that Blaskic
be able to defend himself from house arrest, Shartier added.
According to the Rules on Procedure and Evidence, after the
arrival in the Tribunal Headquarters, the indicted is put in
prison, which is secured by the host country or some other country.
The President of the Tribunal can, however, change conditions
of incarceration should one party request it.
