SARAJEVO, March 9 (Hina) - The deputy high representative for
implementation of the peace agreement in Bosnia, Michael Steiner,
has said that the Bosnian Federation police force will wear new,
grey uniforms very much like those worn by US police officers,
Sarajevo media reported on Saturday.
But federal police officers would still be wearing old
uniforms when they take over the Serb-held Sarajevo suburb of
Ilidza on March 12 because new uniforms would not be ready until
then.
According to an agreement between the Federation president
and his deputy, Kresimir Zubak and Ejup Ganic, and Federal
Interior Minister Avdo Hebib and his deputy Jozo Leutar, all
police officers would wear identical insignia - "Federation of
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Police, City of Sarajevo" - Steiner said.
Hebib and Leutar would draw up a list of police officers who
would be deployed in Ilidza and their composition should reflect
the 1991 population census according to which the police force
should be made up of 43 percent of Moslems, 37 percent of Serbs
and 10 percent of Croats.
