The Croatian police are to be accommodated in the area of the
Mostar police station. They would be an integral part of the police
force in Mostar and would start patrolling the city tomorrow
morning, accompanied by the Mostar police troops, Croatian Interior
Minister's Assistant, Josko Moric, said.
"We have come to do police work and our main task is to keep
order, peace and safety in the city," Moric said.
He denied speculations saying that the Croatian police could
apprehend and retain people in western Mostar.
Moric said that the troops from Croatia would act in
compliance with the decisions of the western Mostar Police
commander and of the commander of the police contingent from
Croatia.
According to Moric, the policemen from Croatia would wear
uniforms of the Croatian Interior Ministry.
"It was discussed that the Croatian policemen be integrated
into the western European police forces in Mostar, but nothing was
decided," Moric said, adding that such a solution was possible,
depending on the future situation in Mostar.
The Herzeg-Bosnian Interior Minister, Ivan Vrankic, stated
that the Croatian police force had arrived in Mostar in line with
the decision of the highest government bodies in Herzeg-Bosnia and
the general help of Croatian police to the police in Herzeg-Bosnia.
Vrankic added that the general situation in Herzeg-Bosnia was
satisfactory, rather than ideal.
