FEDERATION POLICE TO TAKE OVER SARAJEVO'S HADZICI SUBURB

SARAJEVO, March 5 (Hina) - Bosnian Federation police are due to take over the Serb-held Sarajevo suburb of Hadzici on Wednesday morning, the UN in Sarajevo said on Tuesday. The joint police force would be made up of 50 Moslems, 15 Serbs and five Croats, and their work would be supervised by 60 to 70 international police officers, UN spokesman Alexander Ivanko told a press conference. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reported that Hadzici was almost completely deserted on Tuesday after most of its Serb residents had left. Only 120 people had contacted the relief agency, expressing their wish to stay in their homes. UNHCR spokesman Kris Janowski said that a Serb woman from Grbavica, a Serb-held district of Sarajevo, had informed UNHCR officials about threats she had received from other Serbs unless she moved out. Meanwhile, the looting and setting ablaze of houses and apartments in Grbavica and Ilidza continued and Federation authorities said that for safety reasons their firefighters could not go into the suburbs with Serb police still there. The situation in the Sarajevo suburbs which had already reverted to Federation authority was stable and preparations were under way for return of refugees. Foreign diplomats accredited in Sarajevo visited the suburbs on Tuesday. (hina) vm SARAJEVO-HADŽIĆI-FEDERALNA POLICIJA+PV 14/BA BA FEDERALNA POLICIJA SUTRA U HADŽIĆIMA 051346 MET mar 96
