Joint police forces began patrolling at 15.15 hours on
Tuesday, Fox said, adding that five joint patrols were on duty 24
hours a day.
Each patrol is made up of six police officers - two from the
European Union, one from Croatia and one from Croat-held west
Mostar, one from the Bosnian Federation and one from Moslem-
controlled east Mostar - and an interpreter.
Fox stressed that the Mostar police force was to be unified
by March 1.
A building on the west bank of the Neretva River was being
repaired to house the headquarters of the United Police Forces of
Mostar (UPFM), the spokesman said.
He added that if both sides agreed, UPFM police officers
would wear the same uniforms with the same emblem.
Fox did not say how many people had crossed from one part of
town to the other in the last 24 hours. Reporters could see
people crossing the former line of confrontation without problem
although checkpoints had not been removed as they should have by
noon on Tuesday.
