ZAGREB, Feb 8 (Hina) - The Commission for Human Rights of the Serb Community In Croatia today issued a statement saying that 'it wishes to inform the Government of the Republic of Croatia as well as the Croatian and international
public that in cooperation with the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights we have gathered more than 26,000 requests of the Croatian Serb refugees who want to return to Croatia'.
ZAGREB, Feb 8 (Hina) - The Commission for Human Rights of the Serb
Community In Croatia today issued a statement saying that 'it
wishes to inform the Government of the Republic of Croatia as well
as the Croatian and international public that in cooperation with
the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights we have gathered more than
26,000 requests of the Croatian Serb refugees who want to return to
Croatia'. #L#
The statement added that 'more than 52% of the persons who
have filed the forms for their return say that they want to return
to Croatia immediately, without wishing to set any conditions
while 35% of them want to return, but on certain conditions'. Those
conditions were, the statement said, 'personal and legal safety as
well as protection of their property'.
'Only 13% of the refugees do not want to return to Croatia,
but they do ask for compensation for their property', the statement
said.
The statement, signed by the head of the Commission for Human
Rights of the Serb Community in Croatia, Veselin Pejnovic, added
that details on the statements of the refugees could be found in
the material "Refugees on Their Return" of the Yugoslav Helsinki
Committee for Human Rights.
