The US Congress delegation consisted of Senators Claiborn
Pell, Joseph Biden, Patrick Leahy, John Garry, Bob Kerrey and
Charles Robb, and Congressmen Benjamin Gilman, Lee Hamilton, David
Obey, Robert Livingston and John Murtha.
President Tudjman explained to the US Senators and Congressmen
the Croatian polices on Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Federation, as
they had been mostly interested in this question, a spokeswoman for
the Croatian President, Natasa Rajakovic, said after this evening's
meeting.
Commenting on problems in the establishment of the Federation,
Tudjman said that after the four-year-long war it was difficult to
have the comprehensive peace immediately. He added that there were
two basic kinds of problems including the Moslem-Serb relations on
one hand, and the Moslem-Croatian relations on the other hand. He
believed that those difficulties would be successfully overcome in
the end.
Explaining the interests of Croatia in the success of the
Federation Tudjman said there were there reasons for this interest:
firstly, the Federation is the only way to ensure the survival of
the Croatian people in Bosnia-Herzegovina, secondly, Croatia and
Bosnia-Herzegovina are geo-politically and historically linked, and
thirdly, the international community is interested in the success
of the Federation because of the success of the peace process,
Rajakovic added.
