"I discussed with Kostovic the issue of eastern Slavonia and
the Transitional Administration which will hold control over it
until the area is fully reintegrated into Croatia. We also
discussed a possible role of the OSCE (Organization for Security
and Cooperation in Europe) in resolving problems in the area," said
Stoel after the talks.
"We also talked about the return of Croatians into Eastern
Slavonia. We agreed that we would closely cooperate and hold
contact with each other regarding the issue. I hope that the
international community realizes that its help is necessary for the
reconstruction of the area," Stoel said.
"Stoel's visit is a sign of the interest and future role of
the OSCE in Croatia," Kostovic said.
He said that the talks also dealt with the possibility of the
return of Serbs who have the right to do so, to the area. Kostovic
warned Stoel of the uncontrollable settling of Serbs from other
areas into the remaining occupied eastern Croatian area.
"I informed Stoel about Croatia's plans for a speedy
reconstruction of eastern Slavonia, so we discussed ways in which
the process can be accelerated," Kostovic said.
