First aide to the Croatian Foreign Minister Ivan Simonovic
speaks about the problem of refugees after the working group for
humanitarian issues of the Council for the implementation of peace
held a session in Geneva last week. 'The Croatian delegation
proposed a conference which would connect the issue of Croatia's
development with the return of refugees. We have already received
support for that', Simonovic says.
'Lord's Confrontation With Facts' reads the headline of an
article by Aleksandar Milosevic on last week's statements by Lord
David Owen in New York, where he was speaking about the prospects
of the peace processes in former Yugoslavia. Among other things
Lord Owen said that Croatia was the biggest winner in the war.
'Lord Owen's recognition of the correctness of Croatia's
stance only shows hypocrisy of the policy some international
factors had practiced in the region for several years. Owen
recognizes Croatia's patience, but at the same time he shows that
his threats, directed to Zagreb due to its military actions and in
times when he was chairing the International Conference on Former
Yugoslavia, were nothing else but open pressure against Croatia',
Milosevic writes.
Another Croatian daily, 'VECERNJI LIST', recalls on its front
page that it is time to pay income taxes.
Journalist Darko Djuretek writes about the ongoing argument
about the election of the new Zagreb Mayor in an article headlined
'Constructiveness and Stubbornness'. Djuretek concludes that the
Croatian Democratic Party (HDZ) has shown constructiveness and
proved that it was thinking of the welfare of the Croatian capital,
while the opposition has shown stubbornness, thinking only of
winning power.
In an interview with the paper, Croatian Vice Premier Ivica
Kostovic announces an increase of salaries of university
professors.
'Vecernji List' also brings an interview with the head of the
Croatian Social-Democratic Party (SDP), Ivica Racan.
