THEFT IN UN HUMAN RIGHTS OFFICE IN ZAGREB

NEW YORK, Jan 17 (Hina) - Office equipment was stolen from the UN Human Rights Office in Zagreb on Friday night, the UN spokesperson in New York, Sylvana Foa, said on Wednesday. Under cover of the night, the thieves broke into two prefab structures used by the UN Human Rights Office, entering through the window. The theft was being investigated internally, Foa said. "The theft may have been committed by people who work for the UN, because a special pass is required for entering the compound," Foa said. The Zagreb-based Office of the UN Special Representative confirmed that the investigation was being carried out by the UN security service. The case had not been reported to Croatian police because it had occurred on the grounds of a UN military compound, which until recently was the headquarters of UN forces stationed in the area. The stolen equipment included two portable computers, two terminals, two photocopiers and two telephones, according to Ms. Foa. (hina) as 171110 MET jan 96
