ZAGREB, Jan 11 (Hina) - Bosnian Serbs have reportedly killed and
buried up to 8,000 people in a mine in northwestern Bosnia, the
Croatian Helsinki Committee (HHO) for human rights said in a
statement on Friday.
The HHO appealed to international institutions to examine the
alleged mass grave site at Ljubija, about 50 km west of Banja Luka.
The pit, about 100 m wide and 25 deep, is located near the
village of Stara Rijeka, between an artificial lake and the Chapel
of St Ann.
"A very reliable source claims that up to 8,000 people are
buried at that location," the statement said.
The HHO quoted credible witnesses as saying that the first
victims had been buried in the Ljubija mine in the summer of 1992
and that throughout 1993 Serbs had buried there trucksful of bodies
of people killed elsewhere in Bosnia.
