When he arrived at Taszar Clinton addressed US troops and
soldiers from other countries. Afterwards, he met Hungarian senior
officials for talks.
Addressing the troops at the base Clinton said that the NATO-
led peace mission in Bosnia was going on "step by step - steadily,
surely and safely". Being optimistic Clinton added that he did not
want to underrate problems by his statements, since they were big
and significant, but as the mission had been lasting several days
there were reasons for optimism, he added.
Clinton thanked Hungary for its hospitality to IFOR troops.
Speaking to reporters US President said that the NATO
programme "Partnership for Peace" was producing good results.
However, he did not answer when Hungary might become a full member
of the NATO alliance.
Presently US President left Hungary for Bosnia.
