MEETING OF PRESIDENTS TUDJMAN AND CLINTON - STATEMENT

ZAGREB, Jan 13 (Hina) - During the visit of a delegation of the United States of America in Zagreb, President of the Republic of Croatia Franjo Tudjman and President of USA Bill Clinton conducted long and exhaustive talks along with two 12-member delegations, and presently the two Presidents held one-on-one talks, the Croatian President's Office stated on Saturday evening. The participants in the talks discussed all important issues, particularly the peaceful reintegration of the Croatian Danubian areas into the constitutional and legal system of the Republic of Croatia, and the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The views on these issues were very harmonized. Under discussion were the bilateral relations between USA and the Republic of Croatia, particularly incentives to economic cooperation and signing of a agreement on cancellation of double taxation. At the end, Croatia's admittance to the Partnership for Peace and NATO was also considered. US President praised Croatia and its President for an active role in the peace process. Besides President Tudjman, the Croatian delegation consisted of Premier Zlatko Matesa, President's chief-of-staff Ivo Sanader, Foreign Minister Mate Granic, Defence Minister Gojko Susak, a vice premier Ljerka Mintas-Hodak, the Croatian Army headquarters chief- of-staff Zvonimir Cervenko, Interior Minister Ivan Jarnjak, the acting head of the national security office and the head of the Croatian information service Miroslav Tudjman, the newly-appointed Croatian Ambassador to USA Miomir Zuzul, Ambassador to Benelux countries and the NATO alliance Janko Vraniczany-Dobrinovic, President's advisor on home affairs Ivic Pasalic and the President's military cabinet head, General Kresimir Kaspar. During the visit of President Clinton to US troops and staff of US Embassy in Zagreb, President Tudjman met eleven members of US Congress, the statement said. (hina) mms 132305 MET jan 96
