VUKOVAR, Sept 2 (Hina) - According to an UNTAES report on the
reconstruction of flats in the Danube region of eastern Croatia
issued on Tuesday, 489 flats in 11 buildings in Vukovar should be
reconstructed with money provided by the European Union and the
governments of Norway, the Netherlands and Sweden. This year should
see the completion of 322 flats, of which about 70 in October, the
report said, while the rest should be reconstructed by March 1998 at
the latest.
The reconstruction of all flats was worth 15.785,845 German
marks, the report said, specifying the European Union financed the
reconstruction of 336, Norway 133, and the Netherlands and Sweden of
20 flats.
Before the war, in these flats lived 213 Croat and 173 Serb
families, and 103 families of other nationalities. UNTAES and the
Croatian government agreed that earlier owners and tenancy-right
holders will have the right to return to reconstructed flats, the
UNTAES concluded.
