BELGRADE, Aug 11 (Hina) - The Serbian minister for human and
minority rights, Ivan Sedlak, on Monday received a delegation of
the Democratic Alliance of Croats of Vojvodina (DSHV) at their
request. The DSHV delegation was headed by president Bela
Tonkovic.
"During hour and a half long talks, the DSHV
representatives presented a request for regulating the status of
the Croat national community in the Republic of Serbia and the
Federal Republic of Yugoslavia," the DSHV said in a statement.
Besides strict respect for the human rights of Croats, the
DSHV demanded cultural autonomy in the fields of education,
culture and media, which should be managed by a democratically
elected body of Croat representatives.
It also demanded "a direct political mandate in assemblies
at all levels" as well as participation in the preparation of and
negotiations with Croatia on an agreement on the mutual
protection of minorities.
