HUMAN RIGHTS OF CROATS VIOLATED IN SARAJEVO - LOCAL HDZ WARNS

SARAJEVO, Aug 6 (Hina) - Sarajevo authorities continued to violate human rights of Croats in the city and prevented the return of Croat residents who fled the city during the war, Bosnia's Croatian Democratic Union party (HDZ B-H) warned on Wednesday. A statement issued by the HDZ B-H regional branch has said that many Croat refugees have been awaiting for months the resolution of their basic problems and the response of relevant institutions on the matter. Despite of calls issued sometimes by Moslem (Bosniak) high- ranking federal officials to Croats to return to the country, Croats are still being persecuted, the proof of which is two thousand collected complaints submitted by Croats, according to the same sources. Two thousand and five hundred houses and flats owned by Croats, that have been destroyed or damaged, are not being repaired whereas a great amount of money is being allocated for the renovation of Moslem-owned houses and flats. Croat officials in Sarajevo Canton have no insight into the financial situation or into the spending of donations, the statement has read. According to it, Sarajevo is of the key importance for the building of the Croat-Moslem Federation. HDZ officials in Sarajevo have warned that the Bosnian capital is rapidly being losing its characteristic of the multinational city. (hina) jn mš 062036 MET aug 97
