TRAVNIK, July 18 (Hina) - The Municipal Authority of Travnik (central
Bosnia-Herzegovina) on Friday forwarded a letter to Ambassador Robert
Frowick, requesting of the temporary election commission of the
Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe that the BH
September municipal election in Travnik be postponed.
The explanation given for the request is that in line with
Amendment 25 of the Constitution of the Federation of BH Travnik is,
like Mostar, defined as the centre of a mixed Croat and Muslim canton,
and must therefore be organized as an association of city
municipalities.
Since the reorganization of Travnik in line with the mentioned
Amendment is at the very beginning, the town's Municipal Authority is of
the opinion that during the BH September municipal election only the
Municipal Council could be elected, and for this reason, the election
would be unnecessary.
Otherwise, the Travnik Municipal Authority appealed to Frowick to
exert his authority so that the reorganization of Travnik into an
association of city municipalities be completed by September, in which
case the municipal election would be fully justified, the letter said.
A copy of the letter was also forwarded to BH Presidency member
Kresimir Zubak, the President of the BH Federation, Vladimir Soljic, and
the Central Bosnian Prefect, Ivan Saric.
