The State Department asked on 24 June that the discussion on the
loan be postponed once again, State Department spokesman John Dinger
said.
The loan would not be considered until next week at the earliest,
Dinger said.
On Monday, the U.S. Administration for the first time asked for and
was granted a 'technical' postponement of the consideration of the US
$30-million-worth loan until 26 June.
We hope to get a longer postponement during which we will follow
Croatia's behaviour, Dinger said.
The Finance Ministry and State Department continued to cooperate
closely on the issue, Dinger said, adding that they would continue to
consider all options.
According to the U.S. media, that cooperation is not so close.
Differences seem to exist even within the Administration. On one
side, the State Department wants a longer postponement, while on the
other side, there is the Finance Ministry which opposes the idea, The
New York Times said Wednesday, quoting an official with Clinton's
administration as saying.
According to The New York Times, difficulties exist in getting
support from other members of the World Bank managing board for the
postponement of the loan for a longer period of time.
