Over 2,000 candidates from 134 countries applied for 30 available
places, including NATO member countries, but Croatia is the country with
the most representatives in the generation. They are to complete their
training in 2001.
Congratulating the cadets, Susak stressed that they had, among
tough competition, managed to enrol in the most prominent military
schools, in order to be trained to participate in the Croatian defence
system.
"Your generation defended and created the independent state," Susak
stressed.
Galbraith expressed satisfaction that the Croatian cadets were to
leave for American schools, and presented them with plaques. Susak
presented them with President Franjo Tudjman's book "Horrors of War".
On behalf of the cadets, Zorko Petrusa thanked the Defence Ministry
for the opportunity to be trained in American military schools and
stressed that the cadets were aware of their responsibilities in the
defence of the country.
