ZAGREB, June 16 (Hina) - The incumbent Croatian President, Franjo
Tudjman, won 59.09 percent of votes cast at Sunday's presidential
election, according to first preliminary, incomplete and unofficial
results.
The candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Zdravko Tomac,
garnered 22.82 percent, whereas the candidate of the nine opposition
parties (HSLS, HSS, HNS, IDS, IDF, ASH, DA, SDAH and the Green
Community), Social Liberal Vlado Gotovac, won 18.09 percent of votes.
A report on these data, announced by the state Electoral Commission
at half an hour past midnight, was based on returns from 5,247 polling
stations out of 7,558, where 1,638,048 voters out of
2,863,422 registered at rolls, cast their ballots.
According to the report, read by the Commission's head, Ivan
Mrkonjic, at a news conference, 28,041 ballot papers were reported
invalid, and there were 1,610,007 valid ballot papers.
