Congratulating Mrkonjic for the successfully handled elections,
Matesa expressed interest in the holding of presidential elections,
primarily regarding voting abroad.
All Croatian citizens of 18 years and over could vote in embassies
in presidential elections on 15 June, Mrkonjic said. According to him,
the only exception was Bosnia-Herzegovina, whose authorities had been
asked to organise the elections in and outside of the embassies, in
areas which were mostly settled by Croats. The answer to this request
was expected on Friday, he said.
Mrkonjic and Matesa also tackled the voting in the UN-administered
area, stressing the fact that about 100,000 persons who had not had
Croatian documents had voted in the last elections.
Matesa stressed the same regulations had to apply to everyone.
Administration Minister Davorin Mlakar added that only persons on lists
of voters would be allowed to vote.
Eighty official monitors from the European Union had been
registered already, Mrkonjic said. He estimated that about 40,000 local
and 560 foreign observers and about one hundred reporters had monitored
last year's elections.
