ZAGREB, Nov 2 (Hina) - The Simon Wiesenthal Centre on Tuesday
welcomed the extradition to Croatia of former concentration camp
guard Nada Sakic (during the Independent State of Croatia, NDH
1941-1945) who arrived on Tiusday night in Zagreb , the Centre sid
in a preess release issued on Tuesday.
"This marks the second step in our efforts to bring this Holocaust
perpetrator to the bar of justice (the first was her detention under
house arrest in Argentina), and we now call upon the Croatian
authorities to complete the process and put Mrs. Sakic on trial
promptly without any delay whatsoever," said Efraim Zuroff, the
Centre's Israel director who has headed the efforts in this case and
submitted documents to the Croatian Justice Ministry regarding
Mrs. Sakic during his recent visit to Croatia.
"Mrs. Sakic's comments to the effect that her husband (Jasenovac
concentration camp commander Dinko Sakic) was 'as innocent as a
breast-feeding baby' sound increasingly hollow given her own
arrest and extradition to stand for trial for Holocaust atrocities.
The time has come for both members of this criminal couple to pay for
their crimes, Zuroff added.
