ZAGREB, Aug 18 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic and
his Yugoslav counterpart Zivadin Jovanovic met in Zagreb on Tuesday
to discuss the issue of the Prevlaka peninsula and the two
countries' borders.
Jovanovic arrived in Zagreb on Tuesday morning.
"The main issue will be the state border and a permanent solution to
the issue of Prevlaka (the southernmost slither of land in
Croatia)," Granic said.
The issue of Prevlaka is the most delicate. Croatia considers it to
be an exclusively security issue, while FR Yugoslavia regards it as
a territorial dispute between the two countries.
After the signing of the Normalisation Agreement in 1996 by which
Croatia and Yugoslavia recognised and put in order the biggest
issues of mutual relations, the time has come for the
implementation of the strategic provisions of this Agreement which
are tied to a number of open issues and disputes between the two
countries.
Granic and Jovanovic will discuss the situation in Kosovo, the
problem of succession of the former Yugoslavia, missing and
imprisoned persons, the minority protection agreement, opening of
air corridors and river traffic.
The two ministers will sign agreements on trade and stimulation and
protection of investments.
