BELGRADE, Aug 5 (Hina) - Flowers have been laid at the graves of
Vukovar victims in the north-western Yugoslav town of Sremska
Mitrovica to mark Croatia's Homeland Gratitude Day.
The Croatian Embassy in Belgrade's charge d'affaires Davor Vidis on
Wednesday visited the graves which are located in a neglected part
of the town cemetery.
Croatia says it has information that buried in this location were
Croatian policemen and soldiers who had suffered during the siege
and after the fall of Vukovar in 1991.
But the Yugoslav authorities refuse to confirm that the graves
belong to Croat victims of the aggression on Croatia.
Located in the Sremska Mitrovica cemetery are 90 crosses with the
mark of not known.
Last year Yugoslavia handed over the posthumous remains of four
Croatian soldiers, whose names were written on some of the crosses,
to their families following a request by the Croatian side.
