PRISTINA, August 1 (Hina) - The Serbian military offensive in the
southern Yugoslav province of Kosovo has continued despite
international efforts to end the crisis and promises by Belgrade
that operations had ended, Albanian language newspapers in
Pristina reported on Saturday.
"A greater number of killed in Junik, Shalja and Drenica, and the
bombing of the village of Sibovce near Pristina, is the best
evidence that this offensive has not only not stopped, but has on
the contrary intensified," the daily "Koha Ditore" said.
The situation in Malisevo remains dramatic, because at least 60,000
Albanian civilians from this municipality and other parts of
Kosovo, who had earlier sought shelter in the area, are for already
the fourth day running under open skies and suffering food
shortages, the daily "Bujku" said.
This newspaper says that Klina municipality has been also engulfed
in fighting, while residents of surrounding villages have fled
their homes.
"Bujku" writes that Serbian forces based close to Djakovica near
the border with Albania have been strengthened with the arrival of
more troops and equipment.
