SERBIAN FORCES SHELL PEC AREA; RESIDENTS FLEE

( Editorial: --> 7082 ) PRISTINA, July 11 (Hina) - The Kosovo Information Centre on Saturday confirmed an all-out attack of Serbian forces on Pec. Citing Kosovo Democratic Alliance sources, the Centre reported that the village of Lodje, about four km from Pec, was being shelled from four locations. Several dozen houses in Lodje are on fire and its residents as well as people from two other Pec suburbs are fleeing towards Montenegro. The situation in Pec is aggravated by almost 30,000 Albanians from nearby villages who took refuge in the town, the second largest in Kosovo. Pec has been under siege for several weeks. The Alliance called for immediate intervention by international factors so that the attacks be stopped. The Alliance also called on international monitors to immediately visit Pec and see for themselves the extent of the latest attack. Serbian sources have not released any reports on the attack.
