SERBIAN FORCES CONTINUE ATTACKS ON KOSOVO VILLAGES

( Editorial: --> 1120 ) PRISTINA, June 14 (Hina) - Serbian forces on Sunday launched a large-scale operation against four villages in the Decani municipality - Gornji Carabreg, Donji Carabreg, Drenovac and Prelep. About 500 shells have been fired in the attack. Serbian forces have also used rockets, Osman Cacaj of the Kosovo Democratic Alliance from Decani said. A convoy with 40 vehicles with various weapons and 15 tanks set out from Pec towards Decani this morning. According to the Kosovo Information Centre, Serbian forces set fire to a number of houses in the Decani municipality. There is no information as to the consequences of the attack as the town is under blockade. The same sources reported that Serbian forces had shelled the village of Lausha near Srbica for almost 18 hours. The attack started on Saturday and lasted until Sunday morning. Several Albanian families left the village, but local Albanians managed to resist Serbian attacks. Yugoslav army soldiers on Saturday killed a 33-year-old Albanian from Gnjilane. Serbian sources have so far released no reports on the attacks. Two Albanians were killed and one was wounded in border clashes between Serbian forces and local Albanians in the Djakovica municipality, Sokol Dobruna, president of a local human rights committee, said on Sunday. The villages of the Djakovica municipality have been the target of Yugoslav army attacks for some time. The municipality has been under blockade for several weeks. (hina) rml 141548 MET jun 98
