SERBIAN FORCES CONTINUE VIOLENT ATTACKS ON KOSOVO VILLAGES

( Editorial: --> 5530 ) PRISTINA, July 3 (Hina) - At nine p.m. this morning Serbian forces began a violent attack on Gremnike, a village near Klina, the Kosovo Information Centre reported on Friday. Two Albanians were wounded in battles between Serbian forces and Albanian defenders after the shelling of the village. Kosovo Liberation Army units are evacuating women and children from the village and are putting a strong resistance to the Serbs, the KIC reported, emphasising that Serbian forces suffered losses, including two destroyed armoured vehicles. At noon Serbian forces began shelling the villages of Kepuze and Dolovo. Albanian sources also reported about strong Serbian attacks on several villages around Kijevo, 40km west of Kosovo capital Pristina. No information on the consequences is available. Today Albanian sources have not reported anything about the situation in the crisis areas of Decane, Djakovica, Srbica and Obilic near Pristina. Serbian authorities reported that this morning Serbian police took control over Kijevo and the surrounding area, which was blocked for several weeks by the Kosovo Liberation Army. According to the Kosovo Committee for the Protection of Human Rights, more than 400 Albanians have gone missing in the south Yugoslav province. There are also 32 reports on missing Serbs. The committee was deeply concerned that the number of missing persons remains unknown and at the fact that contact with families, humanitarian organisations and attorneys is still not allowed.
