TWO PEOPLE KILLED IN LATEST CLASHES IN KOSOVO

( Editorial: --> 4314 ) PRISTINA, June 28 (Hina) - At least two persons were killed in the latest clashes in Kosovo on Sunday. The pro-government Media Centre in Pristina reported that a Serbian police officer was killed early this morning in an attack by the Kosovo Liberation Army (OVK) on a police station near the village of Prejlepe, western Kosovo. This is the 27th Serbian police officer killed since the beginning of clashes in February this year. Clashes between the OVK and Serbian forces in Djakovica, near the Yugoslav-Albanian border, have continued on Sunday, the Kosovo Information Centre reported. A 55-year-old Albanian teacher was killed in the clashes, the report said. Clashes have also been reported in the Malisevo municipality, which is controlled for the most part by Kosovo Albanians. Serbian helicopters on Saturday evening attacked three villages in the Malisevo municipality, Albanian sources said. There have been no reports on victims. About 40 villages in the Malisevo municipality have been without electricity and phone lines for two days. An Albanian negotiating team in charge of talks with Belgrade on Sunday expressed concern over the deteriorating situation and escalation of conflicts in Kosovo. The team agreed that it was necessary to establish a parliament and government of Kosovo Albanians as soon as possible. The OVK should accept the authority of those institutions so that the Kosovo crisis could be peacefully resolved, said a statement issued in Pristina. The negotiating team called on Kosovo Albanian parties to reach a consensus on a joint programme based on the request for independence and establishment of an independent republic of Kosovo.
