SARAJEVO, April 22 (Hina) - Chief prosecutor Louise Arbour
announced in Sarajevo on Wednesday that she firmly believed former
Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic would be delivered to the
international war crimes tribunal sooner or later.
There are three ways Karadzic will be brought to The Hague. One that
he voluntarily surrenders, two that SFOR arrest him and three that
Bosnian Serb authorities extradite him, the Canadian judge said.
The last scenario, however, is the least possible, because Banja
Luka claims there are constitutional obstacles although in my
opinion that's not a correct interpretation. Any of the two other
scenarios are very real, Arbour told a press conference at the end
of her three-day visit to Bosnia-Herzegovina.
She declined to comment on whether her office and Karadzic's
lawyers had been negotiating on the possibility of his surrender
and whether NATO had set a deadline until when it will wait for
Karadzic to hand himself over.
The International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia
(ICTY) chief prosecutor said additional evidence proving
Karadzic's guilt had been collected.
If the evidence is confirmed during a trial, a life-time sentence
would be sought for the former Bosnian Serb leader.
We have every reason to insist that Karadzic be brought to justice,
Arbour said.
