MOSTAR, April 7 (Hina) - Ninety persons indicted for war crimes by
the International Criminal Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia (ICTY)
will not be able to run in the forthcoming September elections in
Bosnia-Herzegovina, said David Foley, spokesman for the
Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
Foley said this at a press conference held in Mostar on Tuesday,
presenting new election regulations adopted by the Provisional
Election Commission.
Persons who failed to appear before the courts of Bosnia-
Herzegovina, Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina and Republika
Srpska and whose indictment for violation of humanitarian law had
been approved by the Hague Tribunal will not be able to run in the
elections either, said Foley.
He did not say how many of those persons there were in Bosnia-
Herzegovina.
Running in the elections will be forbidden also for officials who
were replaced by the Office of the High Representative because of
the lack of cooperation, as well as for persons who were taken off
candidate lists in last year's local elections and for those who
were relieved of their duties during the implementation of last
year's election results.
Parties and coalitions will have to put up at least three women
among the first ten candidates on their lists, Foley said adding the
regulation was aimed at returning women to the country's political
life.
